Principal

David W. Stirling, AIA, NCARB, President and Owner of Stirling/Brown Architects, Inc. has over 37 years of professional experience including a broad range of building types and uses. Mr. Stirling's professional work includes architecture, space planning, interior design, historic restoration and programming. He has designed and managed a variety of projects including institutional, golf facilities, cemeteries, corporate interiors, colleges, transportation, schools, religious structures and restaurants. Housing for the homeless, SRO (single residence occupancy), hotels, apartments, single and multi-family residences reflects his broad range of experience with various housing types. His work also exhibits a strong emphasis on historic preservation, adaptive re-use and restoration of historically significant architectural works.

David is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, R.I. with degrees in architecture and fine arts. He also holds an Associates Degree in Engineering from the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. Mr. Stirling is a Certificate Holder from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and is registered in the states of Massachusetts, Florida, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and Connecticut.

He was Project Architect for the 2002/2003 PBS broadcast of the Time-Warner, This Old House program featuring the renovation and addition project featured on the program Before and After (Episode BAA-608) broadcast on Home & Garden TV (HGTV). Mr. Stirling was a speaker at the Restoration Renovation Exhibit and Conference in Boston in April 2004, preparing and delivering a seminar on Historic Home Styles Ð Renovations and New.

Mr. Stirling has been a guest critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Boston Architectural Center. He has participated in career education programs at the Wentworth Institute of Technology and at the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Stirling is a past member of the Rhode Island School of Design, Alumni Council.

David is a former member of the Winchester Veteran's Memorial Honor Roll Committee, former Chair of the Town of Winchester, Design Review Committee, a Director of the Winchester Historical Society and Chair of its Building Committee, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Winchester Mystic School Re-Use Committee, Winchester Interfaith Housing & Pro-Bono Services provider, Winchester Town Common Ð Design of planter and seating focal area, past member, Sanborn House Re-Use Committee, past member, Public Outreach and Membership Committees, Boston Society of Architects, and a member of the Winchester Artists Network and the Designers Selection Committee for the Sanborn House Archival Center.
